This is just a quick shout-out and thank you to AFK Tavern in Everette, WA. AFK is a restaurant/bar that caters to gamers. It’s an amazing place with a fantasy/game-themed menu for both food and drinks (try the Pan-Galactic Gargle Blaster!). They’ve also got a separate menu for actual board games and rpgs that they will bring to the table for you to play while you’re there, plus plenty of computer and console game stations for video games.

The people who run this place have always been extremely friendly, kind, and generous. And so when Jen and I needed to have a “headquarters” for Geek Seekers, AFK was the obvious choice. Again, the folks that run the place were very generous, letting us in while they were closed to film a segment for our first episode. On top of all that, now they’re sponsors of the show, helping us purchase extra gear and gifting us with some cool AFK swag.

I just couldn’t go any longer without publicly acknowledging how great they are. Gamers in the Pacific Northwest owe it to themselves to go and check this place out. It’s a lot of fun, and very welcoming.

  1. There’s apparently a cafe in the Seattle area called the Wayward Cafe, which also caters to the nerdy crowd. I’m not sure where exactly it is, but you may like it too. I’ll have to add AFK Tavern to my list of places to see.

  2. Cafe Mox / Card Kingdom in Ballard is the same way. Game store + wine & beer bar + board games they let you play for free.

  3. I go to Wayward all the time. It’s pretty cool (it’s on Roosevelt and 65th). Cafe Mox is cool too, and I really like going there (it’s certainly a lot closer) but it is much, much smaller than AFK and has a pretty different feel. AFK is a bit more open and gregarious. AFK is like a game convention that never ends.

  4. Only wanna say that this is very useful , Thanks for taking your time to write this.
