Cypher Chronicles, vol. 15-2015

Iadace and welcome to this week’s edition of The Cypher Chronicles! Tomorrow is International Tabletop Day — what are you doing to celebrate? We’ll be cheering on the GMs who are running games of Numenera and The Strange (and really any and all games, because that’s just awesome) for friends, family members, and strangers all over the world! We also might sneak in a game or two ourselves.

This week, we’ve got podcasts, dice (!), blogs, real-life Kalyptein crabs, and a couple of local bars just perfect for killing time. So pull up a stool, order your drink of choice, and always be prepared to take the first shot. (And, yes, I did look up drink recipes called “Han Shot First” after writing that, just to see if there were any. I didn’t find much. So now’s your chance to come up with the perfect one).

Product News

  • We have seen the dice from the Numenera Boxed Set and they are… well, we’ll let you judge for yourselves! The background is a matte black, etched with orange details and numbers. Okay, I’ll say it, because I’m too excited not to: They are freaking shiny!

Other Exciting Things

  • Saturday is International TableTop Day, and we’re celebrating with Weird Discoveries. We put out the call last week for GMs around the country (and the world) to run an adventure from Weird Discoveries on ITTD—and nearly 100 of you answered the call! The Instant Adventures format of Weird Discoveries (out later this month) allows GMs to run games with no more prep or setup than a typical board game—seriously, you can pick up the book and start running an adventure in five or ten minutes. We’re putting our money where our mouth is (or rather, making these GMs do it!): We aren’t giving the ITTD GMs their adventure until just a few hours before their events! We think they’ll have a lot of fun with this innovative new RPG format, and so will their players.

Behind the Scenes

Do your characters have a few hours to kill while waiting for that important contact to show up and give them that all-important object? Maybe it’s time to hit the bar while you wait. Or maybe not. (Art by Mike Perry and Matt Stawicki.)
