Cypher Chronicles, vol. 16-2015

Iadace and welcome to this week’s edition of The Cypher Chronicles! We have Weird Discoveries about to hit the stores, some exciting news about the 2015 Origin Awards, and a behind-the-scenes look at the upcoming Worlds Numberless and Strange!

Product News

  • Weird Discoveries — our book of Instant Adventures™ — goes on sale next week! It got all kinds of rave reviews during International Tabletop Day (see below), so we’re really excited about it. If you’re getting this book as a Kickstarter backer or as a pre-order, keep an eye on your inboxes and mailboxes, as it should be on its way to you soon!

Other Exciting Things

  • Did you see Monte’s post on Table Solutions earlier this week? If not, check it out to learn why the rules are “…more what you’d call guidelines than actual rules.”
  • The Academy of Adventure Gaming Arts and Design and our peers have selected The Strange corebook and The Strange Bestiary as 2015 Origins Awards Nominees. We don’t have the official list of other nominees yet, but we’ve heard some rumors and we’re so delighted to share the spotlight with such a great collection of games.

Nominee Seal copy

  • Kickstarters we backed and loved this week: Apocrypha, by Mike Selinker at Lone Shark Games is a favorite this week (full disclosure: Mike/Lone Shark are the developers of the upcoming Numenera board game and Bruce is a stretch goal for this KS! Well, he’s not a stretch goal, but his writing is. He’s a guest “memory author.” The more memory fragments a character unlocks, the more powerful she becomes. And, the more unstable. Sounds like fun to us).

Get Inspired

  • In a few weeks, the MCG team is meeting in Kansas City for one of our creative and business summits. We’re thinking about going here for inspiration. There’s also a rumor of an underground paintball place in an old limestone mine. If we make it out alive, we promise to tell you all about it!

Behind the Scenes

How about a couple of very early page layouts from Worlds Numberless and Strange, the upcoming worldbook for The Strange?
