Description

Generate endless ruins and adventure, in prep or on the fly!

The Numenera Ruin Mapping Engine is one of the most popular features of Jade Colossus: Ruins of the Prior World, the essential GM’s companion for adventure building in the weird and wondrous Ninth World. The 100-card Ruin Deck builds on this feature, letting you quickly and easily generate ruins as you prep for your game, or create them on the fly as you play.

Draw a card as you create a room, obstacle, location, or encounter. Each card gives you:

  • Two prompts for the weird prior-world contents of the room or space. Pick your favorite, or combine them into something really strange.
  • A random encounter with a Ninth World creature, drawing from Numenera Discovery, Numenera Destiny, the Ninth World Bestiary, and the Ninth World Bestiary 2.
  • The number of exits from the room, and their directions.
  • A random color for some aspect of the room—a red energy discharge, blue synth, green beasts, and so on.
  • A random number between 1-100, the equivalent of rolling percentile dice, to quickly generate results from random cypher, encounter, or Numenera Ruin Mapping Engine tables.

Whether you’re carefully planning your next game session, or need to throw together some quick encounters on the fly, the Ruin Deck makes the GM’s job easier with creative prompts for your imagination and time-saving features.

PDF purchasers: To print your Ruin Deck, set your double-sided printer to short-edge binding and print on a cardstock material. Then, with a sharp utility knife and straight edge, use the crop marks as guides to trim the cards apart. If you don’t have a double-sided printer, print the pages individually and then glue them back-to-back with a thin, even coat of adhesive. Before glueing, hold the back-to-back sheets up to a light source to ensure they are lining up correctly. The gutters between the cards give you a little bit of leeway if the two sides do not line up exactly.
