Old Gods of Appalachia—the first Character Builder Pack
At the free Explorer tier, the Cypher Character Builder gives you everything you need to build characters from the Cypher Character Rulebook. Now you can add character-building content from other titles with the purchase of Character Builder Packs. This kicks off today with the addition of the Old Gods of Appalachia Corebook Character Builder Pack.
To build OGoA characters in the Cypher Character Builder, simply:
- Purchase the Old Gods of Appalachia Corebook Character Builder Pack from the MCG Shop
- Log into the Cypher Character Builder using the same credentials you use on the MCG Shop
- Click the Build a Character button.
- This takes you to the first step of character creation: choosing a genre. You’ll see Old Gods of Appalachia as an option there.
Running a game? A GM who subscribes to the Character Builder at the Adept tier can share their Character Builder Packs with players in their group. So an Adept-tier GM who purchases the Old Gods of Appalachia Corebook Character Builder Pack can set up a campaign and invite players—and they’ll all be able to build OGoA characters without needing to make a purchase.

Cypher Character Builder Adept Tier
At the free Explorer tier of the Cypher Character Builder you can create Cypher characters; save, modify, and advance them; and export them to print-ready PDFs or into a VTT. As a GM you can build campaigns and invite players, linking characters and allowing just the options you wish to include in your game. Cypher’s amazing flexibility even lets you create your own types, descriptors, foci, and other character options right in the Character Builder.
The Adept tier offers an even greater range of useful features. Here’s an overview of some favorite features you’ll get at the Adept tier; see the list below for all the features!
- Share Your Books: If you’ve purchased a Character Builder Pack (such as the just-released Old Gods of Appalachia Corebook Character Builder Pack), you can set up a campaign using that pack and invite your players. They’ll be able to build characters using that Character Builder Pack. It’s free for them—they do not need to purchase the pack or subscribe at the Adept tier.
- Share Your Custom Content: If you build custom character options (types, foci, or anything else), or tweak or reskin existing options, assemble your creations into a “sourcebook” that you can access from any of your campaigns. You can even export the data and share with other users. (Plus a bulk import feature lets you do your design work in your preferred work environment, then upload what you’ve created to the Character Builder.)
- Make It Your Own! Create your own custom character sheet for the players in your campaign—or simply change the background on the standard character sheet. Customize colors, upload artwork, or even reskin the dice on the 3D die roller. You can give your campaign just the right look and feel, and all of your players will experience it that way when they use the Cypher Character Builder for your campaign.
