What do you call someone who’s thought about GMing—who’s maybe always wanted to give it a shot—but who hasn’t quite taken the plunge?
Come February, you’re going to call that person a GM! Because this January is the fourth annual New Gamemaster Month!
Creating New GMs!
What, you ask, is New Gamemaster Month all about? Well, we’re reaching out to those people we just described—folks who have been thinking about GMing, but don’t quite know where to start—to give them what they need to run their first game: inspiration, advice, and a step-by-step process that guides prospective GMs up to and through their first game, so they can run it without a hitch and have a great time doing it.
And it’s not just us. This year we’re partnering with two other great RPG publishers—Atlas Games and Pelgrane Press—to expand New Gamemaster Month and reach new potential GMs. So we’ll have a step-by-step program not just for Numenera, but also for Trail of Cthulhu and Unknown Armies as well. And there’s a spiffy new website to support the program: www.newgamemastermonth.com.
Here’s How It Works
Starting Tuesday, January 9th, we’ll run a month-long seminar in the form of twice-weekly posts on www.newgamemastermonth.com. Each session will take the novice through a step or two in the process, with a concise lesson on an aspect of GMing followed by some brief, enjoyable activities that actually get you ready to run your first game. And we have experienced GMs ready to answer questions, provide additional support, and facilitate discussion at the New Gamemaster Month Facebook group.
It’s not all academic, by any means—this is a hands-on seminar. And by the first week of February, the prospective GM won’t be “prospective” any more: She’ll have run her first full-on RPG session!
But I’m Already a GM!
If you’re a regular reader of our website, there’s a good chance you’re already an experienced GM. But you probably know people who’ve considered GMing but haven’t quite gotten there yet. So please spread the word—you can post this article to social media with those little round buttons below. We’d also love your participation in the New Gamemaster Month Facebook group, where, as a veteran GM, you can offer advice and encouragement. And follow @newgmmonth and #NewGmMonth on Twitter to keep up with the program!
And if you’ve never stepped into the world of GMing yourself, take part! We guarantee you’ll find it engaging, interesting, and fun. Head over to the New Gamemaster Month website now and check it out, then come back in January and join us for New Gamemaster Month!
